  • Ep. 87 - Clowns...not Fans
    2024/10/01

This is a bit of a different episode. I have always enjoyed talking about the politics of football, the behavior (or lack thereof) that it inspires in its fanbase, and well the good, the bad, and the ugly of football.

We saw quite a bit of ugly this past weekend at the Madrid Derby and once again it was against Atlético Madrid and a sector of their fanbase that really should not be allowed to be a part of football.

Sure, I have a bias towards Real Madrid BUT stupid behavior is stupid behavior no matter who is doing it.

In this episode, I give my thoughts on the Real Madrid derby, Frente Atlético, ultra fan groups—who are really clowns...not fans—and I also talk a bit about football as well.

I like a good conversation, a good debate, and a bit of drama here and there. So I have to say I liked this podcast because well I spoke from the heart.

Football should be about football. Some banter is fine. Heated rivalries are good. But violence, racism, etc...are not. That is not football.

  • Ep. 86 - Lacking Cohesion
    2024/09/18

Real Madrid faced off against VfB Stuttgart to open their 2024-2025 UEFA Champions League campaign.

It was a nervy game that saw Los Blancos suffering from the same problems that have been affecting them since the beginning of the season. While the star-studded attack of Vinicius, Mbappé, and Rodrygo shows flashes of breakneck speed, skill, and firepower...it still seems disjointed. Jude Bellingham's return added a bit more creativity and stability to the midfield but the entire team still lacks cohesion.

The growing pains continue BUT Real Madrid was still able to beat Stuttgart 3-1 and start off their title defense with a win.

In this episode of the podcast we talk about Real Madrid's difficult win over Real Sociedad, their recent win against Stuttgart and the continued controversy surrounding Vini Jr, where it seems the Spanish press, antimadridistas, and even some Real Madrid fans just can't seem to set their prejudices aside and prefer to stir up drama about every comment and/or gesture he makes.

  • Ep. 85 - Wait and See
    2024/09/02

Going into this past weekend's match against Real Betis there were a lot of nerves and worries about Real Madrid's recent performances, their lack of cohesion in attack, the stability of the dressing room, and of course what Los Blancos' would do to fill the giant Teutonic gap in the midfield left by the one and only Toni Kroos.

Some of the concerns and nerves surrounding Real Madrid these past few weeks have, as always, been driven by the Spanish press and Real Madrid's very reactionary and often unforgiving fanbase.

Real Madrid must always win. They can't draw, let alone lose, and because of the arrival of Kylian Mbappé they are expected to win by large often insulting margins. But the reality has been far from that, so the press, Real Madrid fans, and anti-Madrid fans had their knives out.

Even though Real Madrid still hadn't lost a game, two draws and one win were far from ideal and the match against Real Betis was given monumental importance, even if it was only Real Madrid's 4th game of the season.

Real Madrid looked better on the pitch. They are still far from a finished product but Ceballos brought an added stability to the midfield that was absent previously. And Fede Valverde, Kroos' heir apparent in both number and responsibility, took it upon himself to drive Real Madrid forward with his never ending gas tank, pace, and grit. Mbappé, Vinicius, and Rodrygo seemed to be much more cohesive...and the Frenchman finally got not one but two goals to open his LaLiga tally. The first goal by Mbappe was the product of a diagonal Rodrygo run and a masterful back heel pass from Valverde. Mbappé's second goal came from the penalty spot after Vinicius was taken down in the box. And instead of taking on the responsibility himself Vinicius gave the chance to Mbappé.

He scored and all was right in the Kingdom of Real Madrid once again...at least for now.

This victory won't calm the sharks that are currently circling Real Madrid waiting to tear them apart with criticism should they slip up. But with the team on a short hiatus due to the international break, this victory provided the right amount of chum to calm the feeding frenzy for a bit.

All we can do now is wait and see what will happen once Los Blancos return from the international break. But it seems like Real Madrid is slowly but surely finding their form. And when they do...the goals will continue to come.

  • Ep. 84 - Growing Pains
    2024/08/26

Real Madrid secured all 3 points against Real Valladolid but the team still looks a bit disjointed and far from the completed product a lot of Madridistas know and hope it will be this season.

Many were expecting to Mbappé score his first LaLiga goal at the Santiago Bernabeu but were left wanting. However, it was Real Madrid's other new signing, 18-year old Brazilian wunderkind Endrick who scored the goal that completed Los Blancos' 3-0 win over their opponents from northwestern Spain.

In this episode, we discuss the slight growing pains Real Madrid is going through as they try to bring out Kylian Mbappé's best while also finding balance in a team full of talented players looking to make their mark.

  • Ep. 83 - Real Madrid is Back and So Are We!
    2024/08/19

It's been 9 months since we last did a podcast and a lot has happened! A 15th UCL title, a 36th LaLiga title, and a recent UEFA Super Cup win over Atalanta. Toni Kroos, Joselu, and Nacho have said farewell to the club and Kylian Mbappé has FINALLY arrived.

A new season is upon us, both for Real Madrid and for the Y Nada Mas podcast.

We're back and what a time to come back.

In this episode, we discuss Real Madrid's draw with Mallorca. A disappointing start considering all eyes were on Real Madrid since it was Kylian Mbappé's debut. However, it's much to early to draw any conclusions from this game or begin calling for anyone's head. The team will need to find a formation that works, figure out who will fill the giant gap in midfield left by the legendary Toni Kroos, and continue to build chemistry with our newest marquee signing.

With a little fine tuning, Real Madrid will no doubt continue to be the favorite to defend their LaLiga title as well as compete in all competitions.

  • Ep. 82 - On We Go
    2023/11/09

After a lackluster performance versus Rayo Vallecano over the weekend that resulted in a dull 0-0 draw, Los Blancos showed up versus Portugal's SC Braga in their UCL tie and not only scored 3 great goals but also looked good doing it. With this latest win, Real Madrid has secured their ticked to the knockout stage so on we go to the Round of 16.

Carlo Ancelotti made quite a few changes to the Starting XI that had faced Rayo at the Bernabeu over the weekend. Brahim Diaz stepped in for Jude Bellingham, Lucas Vasquez slotted into right back in place of Dani Carvajal, and Rodrygo was back in the attack in place of Joselu.

Brahim opened up the scoring, Vinicius made it 2-0 with a great strike, and finally, Rodrygo scored a much-needed goal that was not only a beauty but will surely also boost his confidence again in front of goal. Both Vini and Rodrygo, who have not been at their best in La Liga, looked solid in attack and seemed to once again find the swagger that made them a nightmare for opposing defenders.

In this episode, we discuss Real Madrid's performance versus Rayo, their subsequent improvement versus Braga, and we also discuss Brahim Diaz, Ancelotti's coaching choices, and why I have grown somewhat tired of Vini Jr.'s occasional but justified whining in La Liga. VAMOS!

  • Ep. 81 - A Legend in the Making
    2023/10/30

At this point in the 2023-24 season, if you overhear football fans talking about an amazing Real Madrid player doing amazing things, scoring last-minute goals, and hoisting the team on his back to pull them over the finish line...you would probably know that the player they are speaking about is Jude Bellingham. At 20 years old, he is, without a doubt a Real Madrid legend in the making.

Pundits and journalists worldwide, whether they are sitting behind a laptop in Kolkata, a newsdesk in London, or a TV studio in Connecticut, have already pretty much agreed that the words and the adjectives used to describe what Jude Bellingham has done so far in his first season at Real Madrid are starting to run out.

He hasn't just defied expectations, he has grabbed them, slapped them around a bit, and confidently stared them down while saying, "Is that all you got?".

He was already making jaws drop and shutting up rival fans before this weekend's El Clásico. But one right-footed rocket from outside Barcelona's box to score the equalizing goal will now make him part of highlight reels for years to come and an indelible part of Real Madrid's history.

And the best part about his performance against Barcelona this past Saturday was that it wasn't even his best game. But like other world-class players that have come before him at this historic club, one moment and a sliver of space is all they need to turn a game on its head.

In this episode, we discuss Real Madrid's win over Barcelona in El Clásico and we of course talk about the one man that made all the difference. "Hey, Jude!"

  • Ep. 80 - Next Up, El Clásico
    2023/10/26

Once again, the time has come for two of the world's biggest football rivals to face off against one another. Real Madrid, who are coming off a draw against Sevilla in the Sanchez Pizjuan and a UCL Group Stage victory over Braga in Portugal, will now prepare to battle their bitter rivals from Northeastern Spain. Yes. That's right. Next up, El Clásico.

The Blaugrana come into this match missing key players, looking a bit unconvincing but fired up and invigorated by their youth prospects who have carried them across the finish line when they needed the win.

El Clásico, it has been said, is a game where recent form means little. Both teams come into the match wanting to deliver a knockout blow. Both teams want to win. And both fanbases want blood, figuratively of course.

In this episode of the Y Nada Mas podcast, we discuss Real Madrid's recent games against Sevilla and Braga before diving into what we can expect from El Clásico such as desired lineups, Barcelona's current form, and much more. Give it a listen!
