  • Eat Breathe Thrive with Chelsea Roff
    2014/06/09
Chances are you know someone with an eating disorder. An estimated 24 million Americans suffer from anorexia, bulimia or binge eating, and anorexia has the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. The average cost of eating disorder treatment is$1,250 per day. Eating disorders–from anorexia to binge eating–take a massive toll on our healthcare system and are crippling not only for the sufferer, but for their family, friends, and society as well. Yoga for Eating Disorders was created by Chelsea Roff, a former sufferer who found healing from anorexia through the practice of yoga. Yoga for Eating Disorders is a targeted yoga-based program designed to help patients cultivate a healthier relationship with their body using the tools of mindfulness, breathwork, moving meditation, and self-compassion. The Give Back Yoga Foundation is proud to support the transformational work of Yoga for Eating Disorders in treatment centers, mental health facilities, and yoga studios around the country.

  • Nicola Phoenix, the Spiritual Psychologist
    2014/05/05
To address and rectify the root of all limiting beliefs that ‘we are not good enough’ and the expression of this belief allows for immense change. When we give ourselves permission to see the best in our self, we create a life that really does work for us. Join us today as we talk with Nicola Phoenix, the Spiritual Psychologist about the ever-pervading, global epidemic of limiting beliefs and low self-worth. Societal conditioning, the world over, has perpetuated a general malaise, the likes of which we all have been affected at some time in our lives, and how eastern traditions like Yoga can effectively transform us into the thriving beings we actually are. Bringing a spiritual approach to Modern Psychology, Nicola has assisted many out of the ‘dark night of the Soul’ and returned them to a path of wellness and inspiration. Using her own unique blend of asana, meditation breath-work and psychology, she has witnessed remarkable transformations in her clients the world over.

  • The Depth of Yoga with Luke Ketterhagen
    2014/04/28
Today’s guest has had an opportunity to live and learn in residence at one of the oldest and most traditional yoga institutions in the United States, the Himalayan Institute, founded by Swami Rama of the Himalayas. After his 7 year residence, and combined with his degree in Biomedical Sciences, Luke has traveled and taught Yoga nationally, as well as internationally. We are very excited to explore the Depth of Yoga with Luke after such an immersion into the traditional roots of Yoga, Meditation, Asana, Pranayama and more. Luke’s experience, learning from the Masters, can shed some light on this ancient tradition and how we can effectively integrate a thousands of years old science into our modern daily lives. Much of the benefits provided by Yoga are even more important to cultivate today, as the modern world has undoubtably created a lifestyle that is everything but peaceful... unless we know how to allow the ever-present state of Joy the Masters describe to shine through. Namaste.

  • Yoga for World Peace with Rama Jyoti Vernon
    2014/04/21
As we explore the world of Yoga, especially in the West, we would be remiss if we didn’t connect with some of the early pioneers; the ones who were closest to those who brought this ancient practice from the India. Our Guest today, not only was she close, having introduced BKS Iyengar to the US, she also founded Yoga Journal, whose humble roots was a type written newsletter from Rama's kitchen table. She was also instrumental in the formation of the Yoga Alliance, a professional and trade association for yoga teachers and schools in the US. What is even more striking is what Rama has done with Yoga in the world of international diplomacy. Founding President of the Center for International Dialogue formerly known as the Center for the Soviet American Dialogue, Rama, as a citizen diplomat, travelled to the Soviet Union 47 times in seven years and has been recognized by US and Soviet alike as being instrumental in ending the Cold War. Rama shares her vision of world peace with us today.

  • Tithing, the Yoga of Giving Back with Paula Langguth Ryan
    2014/04/14
Your yoga practice and teachings have led you to All That Is. You are inspired to give, to be of service. So much excitement, so much desire. You stand at the threshold, poised to give financially, and then your core beliefs of lack, limitation, guilt, powerlessness, unworthiness, abandonment and fear of death itself rise to the surface. “If I give, I won’t have.” Yet it is our giving that opens up our true recognition that we already have everything. The Universe doesn’t withhold. It doesn’t give to get, or keep score, or hold resentments or wait until it sees what it gets from you. It is an Ever Present, Ever Trusting, Infinite Flow. And so are you. Join us as we discuss with Paula, the notion of giving back, known as Seva, or service, and how the ancient practice of tithing relates to you right now. We will unpack various ways to be in service, while recognizing the divinity, abundance and prosperity that is ever-present, supportive and nurturing to our lives in every way.

  • Yoga Photography, the body stilled with Robert Sturman
    2014/04/07
Undisputedly, the hottest yoga photographer out there these days, Robert Sturman has photographed Yogis all over the world and in some unlikely places. We met Robert at the Sedona Yoga Festival and his enthusiasm for his art is quite exuberant; his work exhibits his intimacy with form and the practice. An avid yogi himself, Robert understands the intricacies of individual experience and masterfully captures the essence of Yoga in each of his models. His clients keep him well-travelled and as a result, Robert has been able to bear witness to Yoga from different international socio-economic backdrops. Recent notables, include his work in San Quentin with Prison Yoga Founder James Fox and his work with the Africa Yoga Project, yet his Painterly Polaroid Style, where he developed and refined an improvisational, labor-intensive process that synthesizes both his photographic and painterly expertise, perhaps shows best, his artistic union of opposing media to create the expression of Joy.
