  • #274 News with Nick | Three For Thursday | Quincy Jones
    2024/11/07

Get ready for it, it’s News with Nick. King Gizzard announces a 2025 orchestral world tour, Thom Yorke does not appreciate being heckled, MadLib sues former manager, and Young Thug is released from jail after pleading guilty and getting time served.

Song: King Gizzard - “Phantom Island”

Greg joins us from vacation in Hawaii this week and he wants to take us on a little journey. We’ll be accompanied by the music of Squarepusher on our travels. Welcome back to “Three for Thursday.”

    Songs:

    Squarepusher - “Tensor in Green”

Squarepusher - “My Red Hot Car”

    Squarepusher - “lambic 9 poetry”

    Squarepusher - “Unreal Square”

Jay leads us into a celebration of Quincy Jones, who died last week at the age of 91. An accomplished musician, bandleader, record producer, songwriter, composer, arranger, and film and television producer, Jones won 28 Grammy Awards and many other accolades in his 70 year career. We could do entire shows about this guy and still miss important contributions that he made to music. He lived a long and productive life and we’re grateful for it.

    Songs:

Quincy Jones - “Ai No Corrida”

Quincy Jones - “Soul Bossa Nova”

Frank Sinatra - “You Make Me Feel So Young”

Happy Halloween! We pretty much have a regular show for you this week, but Jay managed to bust out some spooky sound bites to celebrate the holiday. Enjoy!

Song: The Black Keys & Alice Cooper - “Stay in Your Grave”

On “News with Nick” this week, the music industry hopes to capitalize on the increased popularity of Halloween, Oasis invalidates 50,000 tickets listed on the secondary market, and UMG forms a strategic partnership with the ‘ethical AI music company’ KLAY.

Song: Ashnikko - “Halloweenie VI: Possess Me”

  • #272 - Three for Thursday | Rock Review | Subvert.fm
    2024/10/24

Greg joins us from the road for another Three for Thursday. He kicks off with The Cure, moves on to Mastadon, and ends with some classic Alan Holdsworth.

    Songs:

The Cure - “A Fragile Thing”

    Mastadon - “Show Yourself”

    Allan Holdworth - “Atavachron”

Jay’s back with another “Rock Review” courtesy of our Loudersound. We listen & react to a few tracks from the website’s "Classic Rock Tracks of the Week." Plus, Jay shares his latest song from his 4-Track recording project.

    Song:

    Jay - “Oh, Bismarck”

    Devon Townsend - “Gratitude”

The Struts - “Can’t Stop Talking”

Fantastic Negrito - “I Hope Someone’s Loving You”

Lead Feather - “Roll the Dice”

Nick is excited to talk about the new co-op organization, Subvert.fm, which aims to become “a collectively owned Bandcamp.” They’ve released a manifesto on their website detailing the downfall of Bandcamp and why their model will be different. It’s an exciting and ambitious project that harkens back to the ethos of the early internet and it’s a great way to end the show this week.

    Song: Font - “Hey Kekulé”
