Two friends get together on a weekly basis to chat about life in the big city and discuss a wide range of topics.

On June 2, three North Korean restaurant workers who fled from their jobs in China arrived in South Korea. In April, another 13 restaurant workers made a similar escape. The workers were part of a North Korean initiative to earn cash for the regime when aid from the Soviet Union dried up and a massive famine struck in the 1990s. The regime continues to send its citizens to work overseas and bring in revenue for the state.

This is the story “behind” all of my stories, starting from when I was a kid growing up in Havelock, moving on through the 45 years I spent in the field of youth work. I may have a wild imagination, but this one is nonfiction, and filled with true stories of my life and times. For all youth workers out there - I hope this resonates with you, and not only inspires you to never give up on even the toughest, belligerent kids, but serves as a clarion call for you to stand at the wall and fill the gap, while others have given up and quit.
