A short life of Dickens which celebrates the impact of the theatre on his life and work. Two hundred years after his death, Dickens’s work is more popular than ever, in a variety of media, most of them undreamed of during his lifetime. Over the last few decades of intensive research, Dickens the man has become much better known to us and the sheer originality of his personality blazes forth as never before.

Orson Welles' dramatic anthology series Mercury Theatre on the Air, infamous for its Halloween broadcast of War of the Worlds, found a sponsor and became Campbell Playhouse in December 1938. The program continued to feature the charismatic and fiery Welles as both a host and an actor. The great Lionel Barrymore portrayed Ebenezer Scrooge in Campbell Playhouse's annual performance of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

Charles Dickens' classic story of redemption and Christmas spirit adapted into a 45-minute one-man show, retaining all the characters and brimming with Dickens' humor, recorded live in performance before an audience. The youngest child of debtor William Dorrit, Amy is born in Marshalsea prison. She and her father are befriended by Arthur Clennam, whose mother employs "little Dorrit" as a seamstress. The fortunes of the Dorrits undergo an extreme change when William inherits a fortune, and the family move to Italy. Back in England, Arthur Clennam finds himself the victim of a massive fraud and ends up in Marshalsea. There he is found by Little Dorrit, whose fortune has had no effect on her generosity and humility.

A ghostly adaptation of the beloved classic. This script was adapted for the stage by MOD Theatre Company for an off-Broadway production at the Clurman Theatre on Theatre Row. It was adapted from the original text to be performed by eight storytellers who reimagine Dickens' work with skill and dexterity. MOD does for A Christmas Carol what Peter and the Starcatcher did for Peter Pan.
