La Quête onirique de Kadath l'inconnue est une longue nouvelle fantastique de l'écrivain américain Howard Phillips Lovecraft. L'histoire : Randolph Carter rêve par trois fois d'une majestueuse cité au coucher de soleil, mais chaque fois il est brutalement arraché du rêve avant d'en voir plus. Aussi prie-t-il les dieux du rêve de lui révéler des alentours de cette ville fantastique.

Basil Elton, a lighthouse keeper, engages in a peculiar fantasy in which a bearded man in robes is piloting a mystical white ship which appears when the moon is full. Elton walks across the water on a bridge of moonbeams, joins the bearded man on the ship, and together they explore a mystical chain of islands unlike anything that can be found on Earth. They travel past Zar, a green land where "dwell all the dreams and thoughts of beauty that come to men once and then are forgotten", then the majestic city of Thalarion, "City of a Thousand Wonders", where frightful demons dwell.

The Statement of Randolph Carter is the first person testimony of the titular character, who has been found wandering through swampland in an amnesiac shock. In his statement, Carter attempts to explain the disappearance of his companion, the occultist Harley Warren. Warren has come into the possession of a book, written in an unknown language, the exact contents of which he never revealed to Carter. Carter mentions that Warren has other "strange, rare books on forbidden subjects", several of which are in Arabic.
