Una historia de amor para dos cuerpos. El poemario Todas las noches que fuimos humo trata de una historia de amor que transcurre en una habitación de hotel en la Gran Vía madrileña en el espacio de una noche de verano. Los dos protagonistas se citan para cenar al caer el sol y se despiden a primera hora de la mañana siguiente cuando amanece. Esa noche ambos pasan por diferentes estados de ánimo, algunos compartidos y otros secretos, y se entregan a lo que sucede debajo de las sábanas: lo íntimo, lo privado, el deseo, la soledad, el miedo y la ternura.

This poetic exploration of the subject of love was composed in Italy 1821, and published anonymously, as the poet wished its circulation to be restricted to the "esoteric few." The title means "concerning or about a little soul", the subject, in this case, being Shelley's inamorata of the time, Countess Teresa (designated "Emily" in the poem) Viviani, a young woman who was immured in the Convent of Saint Anna by her father. Shelley had had a number of contacts with her by letter and in person.

El libro del Génesis habla de una escalera "apoyada en la tierra" cuyo "extremo toca el cielo" y de la cual suben y descienden los ángeles.
