Eleven-year-old Jake is amazed when a teenage boy kidnaps the family dog and vanishes. Jake and his twin Ava are determined to find their dog, and soon, they use an abandoned key to seek help in - of all places - a clock shop. This clock shop travels through time and space, piloted by a 700-year-old Swiss alchemist.

Traveling across space and time can take you to some dangerous places. Eleven-year-olds Jake and Ava are seasoned time travelers stuck babysitting their four-year-old cousin, DeeDee. After a day at the pool, DeeDee stoops to touch a strange coin in their driveway—and vanishes!

Jake opens his front door to his mentor. The helpful Swiss alchemist bears bad news: Jake’s teenage time-travel friend, Will, is missing. Oh, no! Jake and his twin Ava go to the Guardians of Time Guild headquarters to look for Will. After an unsettling wait in 1529 Vienna at Headquarters, the twins learn that Will has been kidnapped.
