कदाचित् राजसभायां मरणदण्डं प्राप्तवता बन्धिना राजा अवाच्यशब्दैः निन्दितः । तस्य वचनानि अनवगच्छन् राजा पार्श्वस्थान् अपृच्छत् 'किं वदन्नस्ति सः?’ इति । कश्चन चतुरः मन्त्री अवदत् 'स्वस्य आक्रोशम् असमाधनञ्च निगृह्य अन्येषां दोषं यः‌ क्षामयति स एव श्रेष्ठः' इति । राज्ञि करुणा उत्पन्ना । मरणदण्डनम् अपाकृतवान् च । अपरः मन्त्री अवदत् 'राज्ञः सन्निधौ असत्यं न वक्तव्यम् । सः बन्धी अवाच्यैः शब्दैः अनिन्दत्' इति । तदा राजा अवदत् 'भवता उक्तस्य सत्यस्य अपेक्षया तेन उक्तम् असत्यमेव श्रेष्ठम् । यतः तेन उक्तम् असत्यं मानवहितोद्देशेन' इति ।

Once, in a royal court, a prisoner condemned to death insulted the king with abusive words. The king could not understand them and asked his ministers what the prisoner had said. One wise minister replied: “He who restrains his own anger and forgives the faults of others is truly great.” Hearing this, compassion arose in the king’s heart, and he canceled the death sentence. Another minister then said: “One must not speak falsehood before the king. The prisoner indeed used abusive words”. The king responded: “The false words spoken by my minister are better than the truth, for they were spoken with the intention of human welfare”.

कदाचित् किञ्चन विशालम् उद्यानं वातगोलकविक्रेता आगच्छत् । विविधवर्णीयानि चित्रयुतानि अनिलगोलकानि बालकाः क्रीत्वा, उड्डीयमानानि तानि दृष्ट्वा हसन्ति नृत्यन्ति च । तत्रत्याः बालकाः, वृद्धा, विक्रेता इत्यादयः सर्वे जनाः श्वेतवर्णीयाः एव । तस्मिन्नेव उद्याने कश्चन कृष्णवर्णीयः सप्तवर्षीयः निग्रोबालकः दूरतः एव वातगोलकानि पश्यति । अमेरिकादेशे गौरवर्णीयाः निग्रोजनानाम् अवलेहनां कुर्वन्ति स्म । सः विक्रेतुः समीपम् आगत्य अपृच्छत् 'किं कृष्णगोलकम् अपि आकाशे उड्डयितुं शक्नोति? कृष्णगोलकम् अपि उदानवायुं धर्तुं शक्नुयात्?’ इति । 'गोलकस्य अन्तर्भागे वर्तते उदानवायुः यः उड्डयनं कारयति एव' इति प्रत्यवदत् विक्रेता । सः बालकः विचारमग्नः सन् ग्रीवां हिनोति । शनैः शनैः दूरं गच्छति । तस्य कृष्णकपोले स्मितरेखा प्रस्फुटति ।

Once, a balloon-seller came to a large garden. Children bought colorful balloons, laughed, and danced as they watched them rise into the sky. All the people there—the children, elders, and the seller—were white. In the same garden, a seven-year-old Black boy stood at a distance, watching the balloons. In America, white people often looked down upon Black people. The boy approached the seller and asked: “Will a black balloon also fly in the sky? Can it also hold the air that makes it rise?” The seller replied: “It is the air inside the balloon that makes it rise.” The boy, deep in thought, slowly walked away, a smile appearing on his dark cheeks.

कदाचित् आखेटाय गतवता चन्दनपुरस्य दयावता राज्ञा उसमानेन किञ्चिदपि न लब्धम् । पिपासया व्याकुलेन तेन कुत्रापि जलं न प्राप्तम् । सः भूमौ पतितः । कश्चन कृषिकः राजानं गृहम् आनाय्य जलभोजनादिकम् अयच्छत् । कृषकस्य सेवातः सन्तुष्टः राजा तस्मै किमपि दातुम् ऐच्छत् । यदि किमपि आवश्यकं भविष्यति तर्हि भवतः प्रासादम् आगमिष्यामि इति उक्तवान् कृषकः । अग्रे कदाचित् राजा हस्तौ उपरि गगनदिशि प्रसार्य 'कुरान' नामकस्य धर्मग्रन्थस्य पठनं करोति स्म, तदा कृषकः आगच्छत् । भगवन्तं सुखशान्त्यादिकं याचन्तं राजानं दृष्ट्वा कृषकः अवदत् 'भवान् अपि मत्सदृशः कश्चन याचकः एव । याचकः याचकं न याचेत् । अतः अहं किमपि भवन्तं न याचामि' इत्युक्त्वा ततः निर्गतः ।

Once, the compassionate king Usman of Chandanapura went hunting but found nothing. Overcome with thirst, he collapsed, unable to find water. A farmer brought him home and offered food and drink. Grateful, the king wished to reward him. The farmer replied, “If ever I need something, I will come to your palace”. Later, when the king was reading the holy book Qur’an, raising his hands to the sky and praying for peace and happiness, the farmer arrived. Seeing the king himself as a supplicant before God, the farmer said: “You are also a beggar like me. A beggar should not beg from another beggar. Therefore, I will not ask you for anything.” Saying this, he departed.
