This episode further explored the mental health and academic challenges among immigrant children in the post-covid world. You will first hear from Mr Li, a family liaison at MLK Middle School. Leveraging his extensive experiences working with Chinese-speaking immigrant families, he shed lights on the devastating impact of covid on students’ academic performance and emotional growth. This impact is exacerbated by students’ frequent engagement with social media and other online activities. Subsequently, Ah Yee shared her lived experiences as an immigrant parent, delving into the common barriers that immigrant children and their parents, who often spoke limited English, encountered while navigating the school system. Through sharing her journey, Ah Yee hoped to encourage all immigrant parents to actively participate in their children’s education and to create a safer and supportive environment for immigrant youth to thrive.
