In this conversation, Ricardo Karam sits down with Richard Kouyoumjian for a dialogue about war, politics, exile, faith, Lebanon, and the human being behind the political figure. Richard Kouyoumjian entered public life at a young age, shaped by a Lebanon marked by conflict, political divisions, fear, and loss. He experienced the war firsthand, lost friends, left Lebanon in 1994, and rebuilt his life in the United States before eventually returning to Lebanon and entering public life as Minister of Social Affairs.
The conversation goes back to his early years, his family, and the experiences that shaped his convictions and his understanding of Lebanon. Kouyoumjian reflects on growing up during the war, carrying a weapon at a young age, losing friends, leaving his homeland, and the painful loss of his father, whom he never saw again after leaving Lebanon.
