E3 Improving My Health By Tracking Macronutrients
Today, I want to share my weight loss journey with you. In August 2021, my family and I moved from San Diego to Chicago to work on improving our health, weight, and lifestyle. While my son’s new family was one reason for the move, our health was the primary concern.
As a family, we were all overweight, and it was a challenge to change our eating habits. We loved to cook and ate foods high in fat and gluten. My 12-year-old son, who has autism, struggled with eating healthy foods. His love for crackers, bread, and anything crunchy made it difficult to get him to eat healthily. He had texture issues, and it wasn’t until we found out he was autistic that we could understand the root of his eating problems. He had gained a lot of weight over the years, but the doctor wasn’t too concerned.
Since our move, we have struggled to adjust our eating habits. However, in the last few weeks, I have partnered with my son, who is a certified fitness trainer and part of the First Form family, to work on my weight loss journey more seriously. He had me download an app to track my meals, macronutrients, and pre-plan my meals for the week.
I’m limiting the amount of fat and calories I intake, as well as carbohydrates and added sugars. My personal plan is a bit extreme compared to most, but I’m confident that I can meet my weight loss goal of 135 pounds by July 2024, or maybe even before.
Today, April 22, 2023, I’ve lost almost 60 pounds, weighing in at 254 pounds from 310 pounds when I arrived in Chicago. While this journey is still a work in progress, I’m making significant progress towards my goal. I’m grateful for my son’s help and support, and I’m optimistic about the future of my health and my family’s health.
