  • Mental Health Care USA: Sam Pindur
    2021/12/21
In this episode, I speak with counseling master student, Sam Pindur. Sam is currently working in the inpatient psychiatric hospital setting and earning her master's degree on the side. The current health care system in the U.S. is very broken. Profit, liability, and insurance checklists come far before patient care. In order to make changes in the industry, people must be willing to stand up and speak about the injustices that are occurring. In this episode, Sam and I do just that. We also throw in some mental health resources, life coaching, and conversation about tyrannical workplaces. We hope that this conversation will be one of many that make waves in the corruption that is health care USA.   As always, thank you so much for listening and enjoy! • 12. Different Perspectives in Psychology
    2021/10/11
Today, I have a very special episode for you. This will be the first solo episode where I (Andrew) speak alone in an educational format. In this episode, I cover the seven basic perspectives in psychology. They are the psychodynamic, behavioral, humanistic, cognitive, sociocultural, biological, & evolutionary perspectives. As a bonus, I also touch on the positive and, my personal favorite, the existential perspectives. Understanding these perspectives is paramount in moving forward with your understanding of the mind. In order to know where we are and where we need to go, we must first understand where we have been. Today, we use a mix of all seven (and more) of these perspectives to get a holistic understanding of the individual. My information has come from different sources including my undergraduate textbooks, various YouTube videos, psychological books (some listed below), and different people in my life.  As always, thank you so much for listening and enjoy! 2021/10/04
In this episode, I speak with marijuana professional Mitchell Stencel. Mitch and I have been very close friends since 2000 when we moved in next door to each other. Mitch is a great perspective to have on the podcast and has a ton of interesting life experiences. He currently works in the marijuana industry in Lansing, Michigan, the state’s capital. It has only taken him a year to become a manager of a six-employee team. Over the last year, he has become much more secure in his plans for the future and is excited to be on the frontline of this upcoming industry. In this episode, we also talk about body image, body dysmorphia, and social media. I want to thank you for listening and remind you that my guests and I are always happy to be contacted with questions, comments, or concerns.   Resources to check out from the episode: 📸*Instagram: @mitchstencel *https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/9888-body-dysmorphic-disorder (What is Body Dysmorphia?) *https://jobs.leafbuyer.com/pages/11625-do-you-have-what-it-takes-to-be-a-cannabis-cultivator (Weed Career Options)   ______________________________________________ 📸*Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/driftproofpodcast/ ( @DriftProofPodcast) *Website/Blog:http://andrewcipriano.com/ ( Andrewcipriano.com) https://emojipedia.org/youtube/ (▶️)*YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC67r-0eA7yDCQKIXrJqWXeA ( Andrew Cipriano) https://linktr.ee/DriftProofPodcast (https://linktr.ee/DriftProofPodcast)  Intro music brought to you by YouTube Studio music artist Patrick Patrikinos

  • 10. All About Social Work | Sophia Considine
    2021/09/27
In this episode, I speak with social worker, Sophia Considine. Sophia and I work at the psychiatric hospital together. She is my favorite social worker for a number of reasons but first and foremost because of her outlook on life and mental health. As you will learn in the episode, Sophia has experience in a whole range of social work fields. She has worked with children, adults, and couples and she has worked with veterans, schools, substance abuse, inpatient, outpatient, and partial-day programs (PCPs) psychiatric settings. Combined with her long list of experience, her attitude, education, and work ethic make her an invaluable resource in the field. This episode is all about social work and mental health. Along with discussing Sophia’s journey and past experiences in the field, we also tackle broad questions like how can we break down the stigmatization of mental health. If you have ever wondered what a social worker does or how to become one, this is the episode for you. I simply cannot believe how much valuable information we were able to pack into eighty minutes of conversation.  Resources to check out from the episode: 📸*Instagram: @sophiaconsidine  *https://www.socialworkers.org/About/Ethics/Code-of-Ethics/Code-of-Ethics-English (Social Worker Code of Ethics)  *https://www.psychologytoday.com/us (https://www.psychologytoday.com/us) - Great resource to find a therapist! *https://www.ncsl.org/research/civil-and-criminal-justice/possession-of-a-firearm-by-the-mentally-ill.aspx (Gun Laws After Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital Admittance) - Sign voluntary if you ever get admitted, inpatient! ______________________________________________ 📸*Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/driftproofpodcast/ ( @DriftProofPodcast) *Website/Blog:http://andrewcipriano.com/ ( Andrewcipriano.com) https://emojipedia.org/youtube/ (▶️)*YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC67r-0eA7yDCQKIXrJqWXeA ( Andrew Cipriano) https://linktr.ee/DriftProofPodcast (https://linktr.ee/DriftProofPodcast)  Intro music brought to you by YouTube Studio music artist Patrick Patrikinos

  • 9. Implicit Bias, OCD/Anxiety, Ideology, Morality | Don Rea
    2021/09/20
In this episode, I speak with aspiring psychiatrist and author Don Rea. Don & I work together as mental health technicians at a psychiatric hospital. If you have already listened to episode 6, with Danial Villapando, you will have heard a little bit about the job and industry. Don and I start off by speaking about his journey from high school to working at the psych hospital and we touch on his goals of becoming a psychiatrist. Next, we dive head deep into anxiety, coping, ideology, medication, fear, implicit bias, and talk a lot about the concepts in Don’s book which he will plan to publish within the next couple of years. We finish off the episode with a bonus conversation about morality taken from the ideas in Don’s book. This conversation was thrilling and got right to the heart of some psychological "hot topics". • 8. Journalism, Grieving, Coping, & The Afterlife | Megan Kelley
    2021/09/13
In this episode, I speak with Journalist Megan Kelley. Megan has been one of my friends for a long time and has taken an interesting turn from childcare education to journalism. She currently works for a local newspaper called the Lake Orion Review (our hometown in Michigan), where she runs their website and writes about the local schools, sports, and businesses. Her dream is to one day work as a late-night TV writer. We speak about Megan’s career, what she learned from studying journalism in college (aka J-School), anxiety, depression, and we touch again, on the LGBTQ community. We also talk about Megan’s coping mechanisms and her journey through grieving after her mother passed away as a senior in high school. This is such a great conversation that covers a whole range of psychological topics and how to find truth in a world filled with opinion-based “journalism”.  As always, thank you for listening and I hope you enjoy it!
