Navigating Offense: Christians' Response to the Olympics Controversy

Welcome back to another episode of "Feeding My Faith." I'm your host, Dave Jackson, from theschoolofpodcasting.com. Today, we're diving into a hot-button issue that has set social media ablaze—the controversial opening ceremonies of the 2024 Olympics in France.

Many Christians were outraged, claiming the performance mocked the Lord's Supper. But before we jump to conclusions and join the frenzy of recreational outrage, let's take a moment to dig deeper.

Is this really an attack on our faith, or are we missing a crucial perspective? Join me as we unpack the ceremonies, explore biblical guidance on dealing with offense, and challenge ourselves to respond with love, understanding, and above all, Christ-like compassion. Grab your headphones and let's get started!

  • Pity Party For Two
    2023/06/19

The truth is getting blurry with technology and today we are talking about the Father of Lies (Satan) wants you to believe his lies. When you believe his lies as truth you may not be saying, doing, acting in ways you should. In some cases his lies make you feel bad, sad, etc and you throw yourself a pity party and he will join you every time.

    Common Sense Check:

We realize there are true victims, and panic attacks are a real thing, but that's not what we are talking about today. This is more of a "Starbucks got my order wrong" victim.

    Scripture and References

John 8:44 He is the father of lies

1 Corinthians 4:3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court.

Romans 1:22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools

Scarred Women's Study Dr. Robert Cleck

Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

    Phil 1:12-18

Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel. As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.

1 Kings 19:4 It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”

Philippians 4:5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.

    1 Kings 19

13 And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 14He said, “I have been very jealous for the Lord, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.”

  • Keep it Between You and God
    2017/01/09

Today I’m looking at Matthew 6 and I notice a pattern. When you do things to make you look good to other people is seems to tarnish your actions.

    Matthew 6:1-2 (NLT)

1 “Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven.

2 When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get.

This is easier said than done as many times that is our motivation (public praise, etc). We are looking for the pat on the back, the public applause, the gold star on our time card.

  • Not Feeling Right With God? Who Moved, You or God?
    2017/01/03

So I haven’t put out any content since May. Here are some of the reasons.

    1. I didn’t feel “Worthy” to be behind the microphone talking about God.
    2. As a person with TWO divorces under his belt, I can’t help but feel God was pissed at me. Jesus says in Matthew 19, “I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.” Not much room for interpretation.

However, the truth is God is waiting for you:

    Isaiah 30:18

Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you;  God WANTS to have a relationship with you NO MATTER WHAT.

therefore he will rise up to show you compassion.  He wants to give you a hug, not a punch in the face.

For the Lord is a God of justice.

Don’t listen to the voice in your head that is steering you away from God. It is speaking lies.

  • Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due
    2015/10/13

Today I’m returning to the SOAP study practice.

    Scripture

    Observations

    Applications

    Prayer

    I take a look at Proverbs 3:

The part that jumped out at me was how God is so interested in our hearts, and you see how God is telling us WHY to these items. He is showing us the benefits.

Blessed are those who find wisdom,

        those who gain understanding,

14 for she is more profitable than silver

and yields better returns than gold.

    15 She is more precious than rubies;

nothing you desire can compare with her.

    16 Long life is in her right hand;

in her left hand are riches and honor.

17 Her ways are pleasant ways,

and all her paths are peace.

    18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her;

those who hold her fast will be blessed.

So when you think of those things you would just love to have (A recliner, an iPhone, etc) they are just NOTHING compared to what wisdom in your life can bring.

What are part of Proverbs 3 jumped out at you?
