Our online D&D 5e Sessions will be posted weekly. Follow the adventures of Kruug, Sorn, Ondrej, and Edrik as they try to save 10 towns. GM Gobbs is running Rime of the Frostmaiden with lots of homebrew adventures and items, with a few homebrew rules thrown in. We use a combination of D&D Beyond, Roll 20, Beyond 20 extension, and Discord.

  • A Murder-Death- Kill Group of Misfits - Icewind Dale: RotFM - Session 5

    Session 4 Recap

    We find our hero’s heading back towards their cart of Dwarven iron and low and behold the man, the myth, the goblin Izobai has held true to his word and the Iron is recovered. The boys slide that iron right through the main gate of the Brynn Shander East side where they make their way to the Black Iron Blades. On route they are stopped and thanked by the Speaker for the speaker of the town, Markham Southwell, who bids the group to come to Duvessa Shayne’s abode later that evening for a dinner that turned more into a snacking….at best. The boys agree and continue on their way to the Black Iron but not before the quick thinking Lock of War casts invisibility on the unsuspecting Izoabi to keep him safe. We aren't sure yet, but the group is warming up to this little guy. At the blades Ondrej gets his fill of dwarf with Batllehammer Clan brothers Garn and Jux Brawnanvil who thank him for his bravery and dwarven heartiness by saving Krux and recovering their gold, and killing the enemies who stole it from the monster who killed the dwarf. The curious, colourful and light hearted dwarf Jux rewards Ondrej with the Campaign's first magical item. The brothers also take a shine to Edrik the misshapen halfling and agree to help him out in his quest to make his rifle suck less. Finally the dwarfs ask the group that if they are back up near the Cairn to ask the clan to send some hands to grab the ore and they warn Ondrej of something not right in the mines below the Cairn…. They cannot smelt their own iron and dwarves have gone missing. Khazad Dum Dum dummmm.

    They group leaves the smithy and heads to the Northlook Inn for a bite and a rinse before heading to Duvessa Shaynes when they see a man being dragged out to the North Gate by guards. Anamander began a sermon about saving the people of 10 Towns by sacrificing people to the freezing cold. Kruug wasn't having any of that shit and jumped into the fray nearly tripping over his honor. The guards ain't cool with being knocked up and the priest aint having none of this. They agree not to sacrifice the man until after the meeting with Duvessa and the crew heads to the Northlook. While at the Inn Ondrej puts Izobai to bed, Kruug sweetly talks to a Bard named Kil - Galad to write a song about them,

    They all head to the Duvessa’s and she informs them of some happenings around 10 Towns including something more than just bitter cold. Enemies seem to be grouping up, obviously orcs attacked in broad daylight, this Priest Anamader is gaining power amongst the hard done folks of Brynn Shander and possible abroad, reports of Verbeeg attacks from the southern towns, Gnolls being Gnolls to the west, and she tells them of a strange substance called Chardalyn and that someone has been stealing old artefacts from the eastern cities of 10 towns made of this Mineral. Well, kinda this substance. Although she did add that some of it is good? And has magical properties? She seemed over her head at this point really but good luck trying to figure it all out Bwahahah…..Bwahahah She also mentions the Companions of the Hall and gives you a brief story of their uprising and she mentions one of them called Regis who still dwells near Lonelywood on the shores of Maer Duludon. Our champions now have a greater, if not more confusing, understanding of the happenings of Icewind Dale. Maybe.

    They all head back to the Inn and talk of stuff and things. All in all a solid RP session. Tune in next week when we find out if…. The DM will find a happy medium between RP and Action? Will he start to nail his character voices from the acting lessons he wasted $500 on? Will the group kill a priest? Will the Dodgers pull out a ninth inning win while I write this? Will Hiln be useful? And will the Rhyme of the Frostmaiden win over the hearts and souls of 10 Towns.

  • It all starts with a ballad - Icewind Dale: RotFM - Session 4

    Session 3 Recap

    Our Heros find themselves sheltering from the cold throughout the night in the perilous wasteland of the arctic tundra. Surviving the night they awaken to realize they still need a mode of transportation for their iron cargo and pushing just simply isn't an option for the boys. They end up using clever ideas, some left over potions and a few solidly timed rolls to befriend a group of wolves to aid them in there travels. They make the long Journey back to Brynn Shander and along the way find out some interesting things about each other and their captive Isobai. They find out some of the comings and goings of Karkolohk including their fear…ful leader Yarg Gnock and some of the advanced technologies he may have in his possession.

    Upon arriving near the south east gate of Byrnn they manage to finally lose the control of their wolfen escort and at the same time discover the footprints of many many orcs heading towards Brynn Shander. As they reach the top of a crest they look down to see the orcs are engaging the city and the group makes the decision to give immediate aid. They leave their cargo in the trusting hands of their seemingly helpless captive and rush off to save the day. They engage the enemy from behind who are literally battering down the gates of the city and appear to be bolstered by the shouting commands of their leader. The group notices 2 distinct banners being held by the orcs, one with a severed hand the other with a burning tree. Noticing the leader controlling the battlefield, Edrik takes charge of the situation and gets a solid vantage point to take aim at the Leader, nearly blowing his torso off. Badly hurt but made from the tough stuff orcs are now for the leader Gollick gives chase after Edrick and drops him with his great axe like a bad habit. Edrik appears to be fucked with other party members out of sight and out of reach.

    Meanwhile, our missing rogue companion has taken up the city's call to war and is aiding in their cause and Kruug is knee deep in the midst of battle with Ondrej and Sorn backing him up the best they can. For all their efforts, the city appears to have been caught unprepared and is being overwhelmed, not to mention Edrik is on his last breath, down again, and being held up for the kill by Gollick as his orcs chant feverishly for the kill. At this point, just when all seems to be lost, Kruug seems to, out of nowhere, summon an Orc Chief he seemingly helped in the past. This Orc Chief turns out to be the spirit of King Oblould’s son of the tribe of Many Arrows. This new Orc pulls some serious rank on Gollick and not only is Edriks life saved but the remaining orcs of the 2 lesser tribes retreat back out into the tundra running their way back to the Spine of the World. The orc thanks Kruug, Kruug thanks the Orc, and everyone is a bit lost as to what just happened. Edrik is stabilised, no one important dies and we will begin Session 4 to find out how the companions will be received by the city. Will they get a hero’s welcome? Or did they bring the Orcs? Will they be allowed back in? Will Izobai manage to take off with all that iron or will he stay and beg mercy from his captors? Will Venith remain hidden in the shadows?

  • Dwarven Iron - Icewind Dale: RotFM - Session 3

    Session 1.5 and 2 recap

    The group arises and makes haste into the wintery depths of Icewind Dale in search of revenge for the maimed dwarf Krux and his dead friend. They journey far to the north towards the Valley of the Dwarfs with Kelvins Cairn soaring majestically in the background. The group travels easily despite the harsh terrain, it's almost as if every foot they place is in the right area and every path they walk is the easiest. They are led by the slightly less misshapen halfling Edrik as they move further and further into the north. They find the spot of the dwarf slaying and see large monster tracks heading into the north and they find a second set of prints heading back south, a large creature pushing a sleigh. The group decides to follow the sleigh and meets a clan of Battlehammer dwarfs as they turn to leave the area. The dwarfs, seeing one of their “own” in Ondrej are reasonably polite and they exchange pleasantries.The group finds out that King Brunour is still in Mithral Hall and the Batllhammers only have a holding force of dwarves still left in Icewind Dale. The group finds out that Krux and Obolok were delivering a shipment of Iron from the Balck Iron Blades to the Dwarfs of Kelvins Cairn. The dwarves mine the ore but need the boys of Black Iron Blades Smithy in Brynn Shander to smelt it for them as the dwarfs are having “issues” smelting their own.

    (the conversation with the dwarves was a little hazy but this is the info you gathered, we can discuss the “issue” situation further on Monday.)

    The group followed the tracks all the way back to near Brynn Shander. Freezing and tired they bedded down for a few hours before heading out again at first light. Edrik, with the cold starting to set into his bones, shrugs it off with that can-do Edrik attitude and they head out again after the tracks. As they head south Edrik easily picks up the trail as his eagle eyes and uncanny knack for survival in this terrain once again prove undeniable. He also manages to pick up a second set of tracks heading slightly north and east. The group stays on the first set of tracks and keeps their eye on the prize. As Edrik closes in on their query his freezing exhaustion becomes too much as he falls against a boulder and takes a nap. During this nap he is visited by the always loving Queen Mab who assures Edrik she is there for him and will aid in any way she can. Just to make sure she threatens to kill Edriks family, friends and way of life just to keep him motivated. She then scorches her symbol into his arm curing his exhaustion and making him warm despite the cold. Oh yeah……and the group is now in the middle of blizzard they saw coming but said fuck it and contunied on!!! Balls like watermelons.

    At this point the group hears foul, cursing voices on the wind and identifies the thieves of the Dwarfs iron. Setting up a sneak attack the group gets caught as dwarves and kobolds with metal armour are as quiet as you would imagine. Shit hits the fan, initiative is rolled and we get down to the dirty. Edrik guns down goblin after goblin as kruug goes sword deep into an ogre. All the while advantage is flowing thanks to some handing spell casting by Sorn. Ondrej is getting down dwarf cleric style while taunting the foul creatures and the real hero of the party Greg is doing some godly things from the air.
