  • The Other Guy
    2024/07/10

The debate fallout continues. It’s amazing that we are 13 days removed from the big event and the entire political conversation still remains firmly focused on Joe Biden. On this episode, I briefly update on Biden and then focus on “the other guy”, Donald Trump, who is running by far the best of his three campaigns. As he re-enters the spotlight, with his VP pick imminent and then his Convention next week in Milwaukee, I look at the things he has done well.

  • Debate Fallout Continued: Winning (Barely) The Battle, But Losing (Worse) The War
    2024/07/03

The debate fallout continues. It’s fitting that the worst debate performance in modern history would produce the most dramatic, sustained fallout in modern history. This story just continues at a rapid pace. Every hour, for the last six days, there has been a development big or small.

On this episode, I update on things I said on Friday to watch for, but also look to the horizon, and November, because Biden is losing the war, and his problems are getting worse.

  • Biden Defeats Biden...What's Next?
    2024/06/28

Well, Joe Biden delivered a knockout…unfortunately for him, he did it to himself, not his opponent. In 23 years in politics, I have never seen a more disastrous debate performance in my life.

People famously said in the 1960 debate between Kennedy and Nixon, that if you listened on radio, you thought Nixon won, and if you watched on TV, you thought Kennedy won, because debates are as much about optics as they are on substance. Here, if you watched TV, you were horrified, if you listened on the radio you were stunned. Maybe if you read the transcript you thought Biden won.

On this podcast, I look at:

    1. How Joe Biden knocked out Joe Biden

    2. Oh, by the way, Trump did well by his standards

    3. Where things go from here

  • Day One, 2025
    2024/06/19

I’ve been asked by a few people recently about Project 2025, the effort by former Trump administration officials, in coordination with the 2024 Trump campaign and the candidate himself, to prepare for Day One. On this podcast, I look at how both Party’s prepare for years for Day One of the next administration.

  • "Where's The Outrage?"
    2024/06/12

Towards the end of his campaign for President in 1996, Bob Dole famously asked incredulously, “where’s the outrage?”

Dole was frustrated that Bill Clinton’s myriad scandals were not registering as important to voters, who, instead, focused on the booming economy and were ready to reward Clinton with a second term.

It was a similar frustration to what George H.W. Bush expressed in 1992. Bush could not understand why voters did not see Clinton's draft dodging, college pot smoking, womanizing and other scandals as disqualifying.

Dole and Bush's refrain is similar to what I often hear regarding Trump. How are voters not more horrified by his scandals, conduct and temperament? On this podcast, I look at how, despite the concerns that voters do have about Trump's character, as of today, there is clear preference for his policies and leadership, which is why he continues to lead.

  • Everything's Changed, Nothing's Changed
    2024/06/05

Six days after the Trump verdict, its political impact is beginning to take shape. The two campaigns have marked their path, national and swing state polls have begun to be released, two states had their presidential primary yesterday, and I watched a focus group, conducted Sunday evening, of undecided voters in Georgia and North Carolina. On this episode, I look at how on the one hand, everything's changed, while on the other hand, nothing's changed.

  • Special Edition: The Trump Verdict
    2024/05/31

Immediately after the Trump verdict was announced, I wrote on X that people should not jump to political conclusions right away, as X and cable news are not the real world. It will take a few weeks to see what, if any, impact this has on voters. As the evening went on, and I watched my beloved New York Rangers lose Game 5 last night, I began to receive DMs and texts asking what I think and if I would please do a special podcast. On this special edition show, I walk through how I am thinking about this: through the prism of the candidates' coalitions.
