Episode 13: Circle of Light: The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram

Summary: In this episode, Kristal teaches about the Kabbalistic Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram and Kate learns a whole lot

    Show Notes

Intro & Invocation (0:00-6:58) Journey Through the Kabbalistic Tree of life.

Kristal gives a background on Kabbalah and introduces the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram (LBRP). Using it can push away all kinds of bullshit that you may have been attached to, so be prepared for that. Ultimately, the idea is to move toward your higher self by removing negative energy to make space for higher energy. (6:59-15:05)

Kristal walks through the Hebrew vocabulary used in the LBRP. Then she introduces the banishing pentacle gesture. She walks through the hand positions in correspondence with the words and then leads through each direction. Kate interrupts to clarify that archangels and Biblical creatures pre-date Christianity and the two discuss using symbols that pre-date the oppression we feel around them today. After finishing the tutorial, Kristal shares her own experience of the LBRP. **Please excuse the poor sound quality of the chanting and vibration. This is not recording properly on our current platform. Head to our Instagram Page @Witchingoutloud for a video tutorial by Kristal pinned at the top of the page. (15:06-34:20)

Other banishing methods: hot foot powder, fire cleansing. Kristal discusses creating instant magic triggers, which are like keyboard shortcuts (34:21-38:33)

Final thoughts and call-to-action: Have you used the LBRP? What banishing magic do you do?

Episode 12: Intuitive Living: How to Trust and Develop Your Inner Knowing
Summary: In this episode, Kristal and Kate discuss intuition and practices to develop it.

    Show Notes
Intro & Invocation (0:00-6:05) Nadi Shodhana or Alternate Nostril Breathing. A yogic practice used to calm the mind, balance energy, and reduce stress.

What is intuition? It’s not the taught kind of knowledge; it’s a complementary way of knowing. We exhibit intuitive reasoning as young as one year old and develop it through pattern matching. You feel your intuition in your body and it can be strengthened. (6:06-17:19)

Because we are all one and connected, we have access to knowledge that’s encoded and passed down from generation to generation. (17:20-20:44)

Intuition is complementary to analytical thinking. Intuition relies on both, building on learned behavior and gathered data. A mindfulness practice strengthens intuition and shadow work provides the opportunity to run mini intuitive experiments to confirm new patterns. (20:45-25:29)

The mind-gut connection. We receive intuition first in our heart, then our brain, and finally our gut. Essentially, we have three brains and they work seamlessly together. Your digestive system is a nervous system in and of itself. (25:30-34:51)

Meditation is one of the best ways to build your intuition. Word play, time recall, and flashcards are good exercises, too. Kate shares her experience as a child in Mormonism with the promptings of the Holy Ghost. Ask your guides/the Universe for signs and synchronicities and as you notice more often, you confirm your data. Psychometry is reading what is attached to an object. You can also try automatic writing in response to a question and dream recall. (34:52-53:18)

Final thoughts and call-to-action: How are you building your intuition?

    Winter Solstice Pinecone Blessing Spell

    1. Write down 13 wishes that you want to see happening in 2024 in your journal or grimoire.
    2. Start on the solstice, writing your wishes and folding them into small squares. Place them in a bowl or jar and shake them up. All 13 wishes must be something that you can actually handle.
    3. Take each one and place 12 of them into the pinecone leaving one out. Do not read them!
    4. Drip red or white wax over the pinecone to seal them into the pinecone.
    5. Once all 12 are in the pinecone, open the 13th one. This is the one you will have to work on in the physical realm.
    6. Set your pinecone onto your altar and each day for the next 12 days, say a blessing over the pinecone and visualize yourself at the end of 2024 with all of your wishes true.
    7. On the 12th Day (New Year Day) burn the pinecone and allow all of the energy stored into your wishes to release into the world to manifest.

    Family Wassail Recipe

Simmer the following for 2 hours: 5 quarts of water, 2 cups of sugar, 4 cinnamon sticks and 1 tablespoon of whole cloves. Then add 1 can of frozen orange juice and 1 can of frozen lemonade and bring the beverage back to a simmer.

  • Episode 8: Embracing the Shadow: Shadow Work for Empowerment in Money, Love & Magick
    2024/10/22

    Send us a text

Summary: In this episode, Kristal and Kate discuss shadow work, which is integrating those parts of ourselves we’d rather not acknowledge. Facing our shadow parts can be a powerful way to tap into a more integrated

    Show Notes

Kate lays down some technical definitions around shadow work and its origins. Shadow work is uncovering hidden parts of the psyche and healing from old wounds. Kristal shares her process recovering her anger, for which she’d be taught to feel a lot of shame. They touch on shame and Kate’s particular shadow work journey has been around body shame. (3:11-9:04)

Shadow work is also essential for processing trauma and unraveling the socialization we have around money, relationships and sexuality. These unprocessed messages become limiting beliefs and when you’re trying to do magic, limiting beliefs can get in the way. If you’re trying to attract money but you think money is the root of all evil, you won’t succeed. (9:05-10:25)

They list ways to recognize when you’re experiencing a shadow part. Doing shadow work helps you realize your triggers so you can pause before you react. Shadow work benefits witches by removing barriers that hold us back from manifesting our magical work. We need to match our vibration to the thing we want to have in our life. You can raise your vibration and also recognize the energy of what you’re working with. (10:26-15:09)

Doing energy work builds compassion for others and if you will serve others as a witch, compassion is essential so you can meet people where they are. Becoming fluent in shadow work helps you move through the triggered state faster. Lean into that state, be curious about it and ask when it needs to tell you. (15:10-18:25)

Practices for shadow work include inner child work and soul retrieval. Kristal and Kate share their experiences with these. A therapist is a good idea for inner child work and a shaman or energy healer is a good idea for soul retrieval. Integrating with these parts of ourselves makes us more complete and gives us a better chance at self-actualization. This healing echoes forward and backward in time, across generations. (18:26-22:48)

Journaling, guided meditations, journey work, deity work are also strong practices for shadow work. Deity work is using archetypes who have specialized aspects and skills that can lead us. The two discuss Baba Yaga, Persephone and Demeter’s influence in their lives and their femininity. (22:49-30:53)

Final thoughts and call-to-action: Align shadow work with the lunar cycle and the inward seasons of the year. Start incrementally and reach out if you’d like support.

Episode 07: The Spirit of Samhain: Origins & Traditions

Summary: In this episode, Kristal and Kate chat about Samhain (summer’s end), sometimes called the Witches’ New Year.

    Show Notes

    Intro & Invocation (0:00-3:03)

Samhain marks the end of the harvest season, the transition into winter, and an honoring of the ancestors. The veil between the physical world and the spiritual world is thin at this time, so it’s easier to connect with the spirits. It’s a time of introspection. This time of the year echoes the lunar cycle and dark moon, hence the Witches’ New Year. (3:04-9:29)

Kristal and Kate share their personal traditions for this holiday. Kate leans into the association of marigolds and lights an ancestor candle, and she observes Halloween and All Saints Day separately. Kristal decorates her altars with symbols of her ancestors and honors Hecate. As a spirit worker, this is a good time of year for her to do deep work. (9:30-15:10)

It’s only in modern times that Halloween has become a playful party time. Today’s Halloween is a morphing of paganism and superstition into Christian light magic. (15:11-16:47)

Samhain is a good time of year for shadow work, taking inventory and reflecting on what to release and what will grow in the coming year. Releasing is an important part of this time of year. It’d also a good time to invite ancestral support of your upcoming endeavors. (16:48-19:55)

Kate and Kristal make an important distinction between all ancestors and healed ancestors. Not every ancestor’s spirit is equipped to support you and not every ancestor is benevolent. Only invite healed, beloved dead or well ancestors who are aligned with your work. (19:56-25:55)

Kristal leans into the pumpkin themes of the season and loves all the spooky decorations. It’s a good time to stock up on typical witchy decor and herbs. It’s a time of year that witches can be a little more visible and organize parties and celebrations and do fun witchy shit. (25:56-31:09)

Episode 06: Sacred Spaces: Enchanting your Home

Summary: In this episode, Kristal and Kate discuss the home as sacred, magical space and your spiritual headquarters. They discuss the role of the kitchen in hearthcraft and share their experiences with their homes. Kate introduces Feng Shui as a tool for hearthcraft.

    Show Notes

    Intro & Invocation (0:00-1:32)
Every home has a hearthspace and a spirit. The first step is connecting with the spirit of your home to build a relationship. Kate shares her experience of moving from one home to another recently. (1:33-10:27)

Hearthcraft is different from kitchen witchery, even though the hearth is often centered in a kitchen and Kate is drawn to homemaking and homekeeping. Kristal, on the other hand, loves kitchen witchery. Historically, the kitchen was the center of the home and it still is today. The cauldron is associated with the imagery of the kitchen and hearthcraft. And there’s a great deal of intentionality in food prep, tool maintenance and the animism of even modern appliances. When you’re caring for your tools, you’re caring for your hearth. (10:28-22:20)

Feng Shui can be a powerful tool in hearthcraft and Kate recently took a class in it. Feng Shui is based on a 9-square overlay to your floorplan called the Bagua Map and you can intentionally use those home regions to influence corresponding areas of your life. (22:21-28:40)

Clearing and cleansing and purifying your home is a great way to bless and connect with your home. Homes can also have household spirits and deities in addition to the overall spirit of the home. Kate works with Hestia and a domovoy and Kristal works predominantly with her ancestors. Things outside the house can also support your connection with your home, such as statuary or trees. They become allies in your work. (28:41-35:20)
