This is a story of a little girl who is motivated by her dreams to enter a dancing competition in her village. African dance uses improvisation and the entire body. Some dancers learn their moves from former dancers, who became famous by participating in dance during various rituals, celebrations, or festivities.

They are playing with their friends, doing their daily chores, sitting in a classroom, attending a church service or Sunday school. Children have been ambushed and snatched while engaged in activities such as these and forced to become child soldiers in many countries. Their traumas include shooting and killing innocent men, women, and children, taking drugs, planting mines, and drinking the blood of victims. They are known to be ferocious, efficient, and intimidating.

When Samuel Johnson unicycled around Australia, he met some awesome people. And before we had to lock down, he and his other sister, Hilde, were travelling the country talking at schools, community groups and at the side of busy streets to spread their message about how to kick cancer in the face hole. But in the process they connected and listened as people shared their own stories - not just about how cancer impacted them, but about love, fighting fires, making families out of choice not blood, knitting, being there and being surprised by life and finding solace from strangers.

Raysha will do whatever it takes to fix her broken soul, even if it means venturing into the unknown with nothing but her brother, an enchanted water bottle, and her fierce determination. The only one without the ability to cultivate aeon from the world, Raysha has been ostracized her whole life for her weakness. In a world where true masters of aeon have slaughtered gods, Raysha's future in her village is limited to babysitting pre-awakened children.

After an arduous journey to integrate an ancient spirit heart into her core, Raysha sets out to prove her worth in the Academy's tournament. Raysha must find a path, forge her own techniques, and advance to the Initiate. As the clock ticks down to the start of the contest, will she be able to prepare and overcome the fierce competition from the student elite? Can she control the vast ocean of aeon with sheer stubbornness and claim victory? Provided the tournament is a straightforward content of will and power, Raysha is determined to find a way.

Bridges have been burnt, and Raysha needs out. With the opportunity to travel and leave Darius behind, she jumps at the change and drags the Misfits along with her. Tension is rising between the nations of Erasted and Nhami, and problems plague the border towns. Through it all winds one question she cares about above all others: Why are spirits being hunted? And how can she find a way to protect them and strike down those who dare try and harvest their hearts?
