Nelson Beckett is an ex-cop who runs a bar and grill in a small, unconventional community, “The Edge”. Business is good, and he is considered the mayor of The Edge and the county sheriff has made him an honorary deputy. He starts having the night terrors again and he begins to fear that he might have inherited his mother’s mental illness. Another businessman asks the ex-cop if he believes in ghosts. Nelson tries to placate the man by telling him that we’re all haunted by our past and experiences.

I remember going out on a date one time with a girl named Lori. I decided to take her to the Canfield fair on a Friday night. So we paid our way in and walked around and I saw a fortuneteller’s tent. I walked up to it and I could see an old woman in there lying to a customer about how rich he was going to be. Lori tells me “You should go have your fortune read". So I agreed to it and told her to wait far enough away so she couldn't hear me talk to the old woman. It was five dollars. I paid the woman. She looked into my eyes, and she asked to hold my hands.
