Opt-out – Unsubscribe – You Don’t Have to Save Everyone – Let it Break Sis!!!

In this episode we explore how, why, and when we should do something that completely contradicts who we so often are in our workspaces, and that is the one who swoops in to accept additional responsibilities, to make sure something stays on the right track, or to clean up someone else’s mess protecting the company and “them” in the process. Because this effort is too often thankless, goes without recognition, or quickly becomes expected, we may want to “opt-out” and “unsubscribe” because we can’t, nor should we save everyone from their hot mess and their accountability. 

We’ll consider strategic times that when faced with the choice to step back, this can create a necessary opening for someone else to exhibit their shortcomings, or to rise or fall to the occasion.  Sometimes we need to opt in to letting it break and not being the Black Girl Savior.

We delve into how leveraging EQ informs our decisions and helps answer the how, why, and when, so we know when to step in versus when to step aside and let things progress without our input. We go deeper and discuss the potential costs associated with opting out as they relate not just to our careers but to our well being. Sometimes the decision to unsubscribe and turn your notifications off is about saving ourselves!

When They Go Low - We Go Stealth

During the tumultuous 2016 election season, our then @Flotus, First Lady Michelle Obama famously said at the Democratic National Convention when referring to the opposing political party, that “when they go low, we go high.”  It was a referendum to have decorum in what had become an ugly and uncivil climate and an encouragement to take the higher road and to pursue excellence.  In this discussion we put our own spin on this in the workplace.  Sometimes we know we all want to go LOW, LOW…like all the way to the FLO’ LOW,…but we often can’t and still keep our jobs, our brand and our power.  However, it doesn’t mean we get played. In this episode we discuss how to play the game and checkmate with these strategically defensive and offensive play-action passes that have your opponent looking one way while you make the touchdown.  Let’s get you in on this game ladies!
