  • Josh Lovelace: It's a Marathon Not a Sprint
    2024/11/19

    Send us a text

#8: Josh Lovelace (he/him) is a proud work in progress: whether it’s quitting drinking to be more present for his kids, quelling panic attacks before stepping on stage, or just figuring out what he believes after a childhood of being told that there’s only one way to pray. Through all this turmoil, he’s had his touchstones, his shelters: loved ones, friends, and, of course, music.

Born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, Josh — who also plays keys and sings in South Carolina rock band NEEDTOBREATHE — grew up making music. He discovered early on in life that writing music was his escape, his therapy, and also his best friend -- the thing that has always been there when he needs it.

Check out the episode with Josh to learn more about his journey with sobriety, his relationship with music & touring, and more!

  • Stephen McCorry: Now is the time to Rise
    2024/11/12

    Send us a text

#7: Stephen McCorry is recovery coach, author, father of two sons, and person in recovery from Lansing, Michigan. Recently while on the phone chatting with a friend in his car, something clicked in Stephen's mind. What he affectionately calls a 'moment of lucidity,' Stephen had the realization and appreciation of how far he had come in his life. It was an epiphany that he had the ability to meaningfully contribute to a conversation and speak life to folks that need it. Six years ago, this was not the case.

Check out the conversation to hear Stephen's story of active addiction and journey to find recovery, and learn what changed in the six years that now allows him to show up with intention everyday. We discuss this and more, including:

    • His journey with faith in prison and when he was "the lowest he will ever be."
    • Stephen's realization that the only way he would be happy is by doing the things he is supposed to do, not the things he wants to do.
    • How fatherhood has shaped his life's purpose and taught him the importance of being a good teacher and encourager.

  • Randall Hall: Recovery Dharma and Empowering All Pathways
    2024/10/29

    Send us a text

#5: This week, Liz and Bryce The Third sit down with Randall Hall (he/him), the former President of Recovery Dharma Global and SMART Recovery Facilitator. They dive into Randall's recovery story and the different paths he practiced before finding the pathway that's right for him.

For Randall, having choices empowers us, and recovery is not a one-size-fit-all. At the root of all these different pathways is community, self-reflection, and the idea that helping others helps ourselves. His words of wisdom: try different programs, keep an open mind, and find that unique path that resonates with you.

  • Liz & Bryce The Third: Taking Up Space
    2024/10/22

    Send us a text

#4: This week Liz and Bryce sit down for a solo episode, exploring what it means to take up space and be willing to show up as ourselves. Liz emphasizes the various versions of herself that shine through depending on the situation. While she has different sides, they all make up her authentic self and the skill is to bring them out at the right time.

For Bryce, it is easier to show up in spaces if it tied to something bigger than him and serves as a way to contribute to the community. He's able to show up with energy and authenticity if it means someone else will benefit. Tune into the episode to hear more of their conversation, including:

    • Why Liz prefers to uplift stories from the recovery community as opposed to record solo episodes.
    • Bryce's take on taking up space on the podcast: "someone will hear you talk and really relate and find community by you being yourself."
    • How to be a leaders in a space, looking at the example of Scott Strode and Jacki Hillios.

Check out Phoenix Co-Founder Scott Strode's book Rise. Recover. Thrive. and pre-order HERE.

  • Sacha Goolsby: Finding Community in Virtual Recovery Spaces
    2024/10/15

    Send us a text

#3: Sacha Goolsby (she/her) found recovery during the Covid-19 lockdown. Although she had known for awhile she wanted to end her dependency on alcohol, Sacha decided to prioritize sobriety after Halloween 2020 and hasn't looked back ever since. Within the confines of her home, Sacha spent her evenings practicing yoga and connecting with her virtual community, in her words: "getting clean on the screen."

Tune into the episode to hear more of Sacha's story, including:

    • How finding an online recovery community and virtual classes were the right step for her, especially in the beginning.
    • The importance of having a network of friends in recovery -- both to support you and hold you accountable.
    • How acupuncture helped kickstart Sacha's recovery and is now a way she gives back to her community.
    • How her sobriety has helped shape her kids' views on alcohol and underage drinking.

  • Rediscovering Yourself…again? a chat with Liz & Bryce The Third
    2024/10/08

    Send us a text

#2: This week Liz and Bryce sit down for a conversation exploring identity, their approaches to routines and life, and how non-linear this whole journey is. From working through anxiety to shaking up who we think we are, recovery gave both Liz and Bryce the space and time to evolve, question and grow. Check out the episode to dive into conversation on this and more, including:

    • Learning to enjoy the journey and not just focus on the end, something Liz is practicing while doing her graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
    • Methods Liz has learned to harness control over her anxiety, and how if she knows what's coming she can help herself out of it.
    • How sobriety allowed Bryce to evolve into someone new and gave him space to have a lot of restarts and softness.
    • How non-linear the whole process is - and Bryce and Liz are perfect examples of this.
