This 2016 film has almost none of the traditional markers we love from a Jane Austen adaptation: nasty, manipulative women, buffoonish men, and throuples. It was definitely the wildest of rides. She plays Lucy Kelson (yes, another Lucy) a no-nonsense, type A lawyer who is just trying to do good in the world opposite Hugh Grant’s suave, childish, and charming George Wade. This movie has everything we love: the sunshine/grumpy trope, good quick banter, and a Norah Jones cameo. It also has everything we hate: a Donald Trump jumpscare. Nevertheless, we persisted through.
